There are not many things that I am really good at. Daily I see some amazingly talented people and am reminded that in my 33 years I have been a jack of all and master of none. It honestly doesn't bother me because I have realised that there is one thing that I do really well and it brings me a tonne of joy. I am really good at choosing friends. I have amazing friends.
Yesterday I turned 33 and birthdays are always a good time to get reflective. I have been spoilt all week by parcels arriving, cards, texts, been taken out to lunch and have had restaurant dinners twice with some beautiful life long friends. They were a highlight and a rarity been able to have full uninterrupted conversations without little ones around our feet.
And then there is my gorgeous family, who brought me breakfast in bed -pancakes to which Oliver told me I wasn't to eat them all myself and that I needed to share. Pancakes are his favourite complete with real maple syrup brought back from Canada by one of the above mentioned friends. Except he calls the maple syrup 'the holy spirit'. Cracks us up every time.
Marcus then feeling brave took all 3 on a garage sale outing. They went to 4 different places to find some treasures and the kids loved it. I too loved having the house to myself to sleep in then get out my craft suitcase which I have been dying to get at for months. Nothing too exciting just some patching and light sewing but it felt good to get the creative juices flowing again.
The family arrived home and we got baking. I loved how excited the kids were about it been my birthday. As much as if it was there own. The cupcake stand was a gift from my friend and was put to good use.
Then it was eggs and soldiers dinner for the kids (their birthday request) while Marcus and I got ready to go out for dinner and the lovely Nana Raeanne came to babysit. That fireman helmet which I'm pretty sure is the real deal was Oliver's garage Sale score. He didn't take it off all afternoon, not even to eat.
So birthday over, i feel blessed, loved and privileged to have had a rich 33 years and considering I've spent a large part of this year thinking I was 34 discovering I was only 33 was a bit of an extra bonus!
Happy Birthday! Gosh that fireman helmet is an awesome score! Yay Ollie! I'm glad you had a good day and looking forward to catching up at some stage! Jen x
