Kate

I have a very special friend called Kate who is 7 weeks away from birthing her 6th child. And before you ask, yes they have a TV and yes this baby was planned. You see, Kate was one of these ladies that was just born to be a mama.

I first met Kate 8 years ago when we sat behind her and her then family of 5 in church. Marcus and I were invited back to their house for lunch and I discovered what an amazing cook she is and style guru. I stood in her kitchen making small talk as she whipped up lunch for us all, with a baby on the hip and two young ones running around. I instantly liked her and the grace, calm, gentleness, beauty, and joy that ebbed out of her as she worked.

8 long years have passed and she still oozes those qualities. She was with me helping in the labours and births of both Lucy and Oliver. Lucy's middle name is Kate after her and while not at Nathan's birth, we are wrapped that both her and her husband are Nathan's Godparents. When Marcus got sick, Kate turned up on the doorstep with dinner, a basket of homegrown goodies and got to work cleaning our windows while we chatted and I tended to Nathan.

She has had 2 more babies of her own since that first meeting and experienced some pretty hard trials which you would never know to look at her. She is inspiring and I have so much respect for her.

So this weekend was about honouring this woman with a girls night away in Napier and a Freezer Party in lieu of a baby shower.

The night away in Napier was great, no big night on the town, or a heap of traveling to get somewhere. Just pedicures, dinner and a chick flick before hunkering down for a child free uninterrupted nights sleep followed by a sleep in and brunch in the morning.

The next day was her freezer party where guests were invited to Kate's house for afternoon tea and asked to bring something to stock their freezer with to make life easier for when baby arrives.

People brought meals, baking, cooking dough, treats for the kids, it was great.  Her daughter Mollie had decorated the house and organised some games. She did her mum proud.

Hey Baby, We can't wait to meet you!

Thank you Kate, for your friendship, for the excuse of this weekend to spoil you and for raising up a beautiful family. The sign is true, I can't wait to meet number 6. I already know it is going to be a spunk!
