1. On Sunday, Marcus and Ollie rescued a white dove from a cat attack. It literally hopped, fell into Marcus' arms while Olli scared the cat away. It had lost a leg, a heap of feathers and had two pretty deep puncture wounds on it's chest. We were already late for church so put it in a fish bin on a towel and left it in our garden shed to recover. When we got back, we feed and watered it, the kids held it and stroked it while it snuggled into them (it really was so tame). However on Monday morning when we checked on it, it had died during the night. Marcus had told Oliver that it had gone to be with Jesus so when Oliver saw it in the box he said "No it hasn't Dad, it's right there." So then I said, "yes it's body is here Oliver but it has died." to which he then said "hurry up body, Jesus is waiting for you, go!" Even in something as somber as death that boy can make me giggle.
2. Our neighbours massive feijoa tree that hung over our fence, the one that almost made me wee my pants with glee when I realised what it was, produced the sum total of one feijoa. There is absolutely no point to a fruit tree that doesn't produce fruit. (Yes there is a sermon in there). Our neighbours must have thought so too because in the weekend they chopped it down. Actually they chopped a lot of their trees down so despite the disappointment of not having free feijoas after all, at least my washing line isn't in the shade anymore.
3. My skin has been really bad since moving to our new house. I am blaming the hard water that Havelock North seems to have. Very high in lime I am told. In desperation I was talked into a new skin care regime by a very caring and concerned beautician. It cost a lot. I'm talking a weeks worth of groceries a lot with the promise of beautiful skin. It has been 3 weeks and I haven't noticed the slightest bit of difference. (There is a sermon in that one too.)
4. Nathan won't eat his dinner in the bath anymore. This was something I started because he didn't eat his dinner due to being so distracted by his siblings. I would plonk him in the bath and feed him spoonfuls of his mixed veggies while he played in the water. He would eat it all up without even realising it and I loved it because there was no clean up required. He won't do it anymore, sits with his back to me and his lips clenched. Think it might be time he joined us at the table and I'm not ready for that yet.
Sweet Anna, thank you for sharing these disappointments. I know that even "little" things can have an affect on us, and make us feel down. May God draw you closer to Himself through the highs and the lows of your life.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a beautiful writer, which no doubt comes from a precious heart! An inspiration to me in so many ways...
With my love and care,
Tehila
Oh Tehila, you are so sweet. These aren't really disappointments, didn't want it to sound like a downer post. Mostly I just laughed at them all, there is a silver lining to all of them in some way or another, except maybe the expensive skincare but there is a lesson to be learnt in that one. Bless ya. x
DeleteOh Anna!!! I can't wait to hear your sermon! My mum swears by olive oil as a cleanser.. do you have dry or oily skin? (not sooooo good for those with oily skin ;) but both her and my sister use it and have gorgeous skin)
ReplyDeletelove you my friend.. xx
hmmm, I love olive oil might just try that out. You are right your mum and sister are great endorsements. :)

love you! xx
love you too Miss Dee. Your blog is MY fav.
DeleteOh bummers all round! Especially the feijoas, what a rip! Actually, all of it.
ReplyDeleteyes, bummer. Am planning on planting our own feijoa tree this weekend so stay tunned, it only takes 5 years for a fruit tree to start producing doesn't it? Oh man, 5 more years!
DeleteYou could maybe get a water softener added to your house? It should also stop water hammers if you get that with the hard water. Eating more nuts also helps your skin to not be so dry. Life is full of little disappointments. Plant your own feijoa. ;)
ReplyDeleteSomeone else has suggested a water softener to us. Not even sure how to go about this, how do you add it to your water supply if we are on mains? Will look into it. The nuts thing is interesting will try that too. Planting our own feijoa this weekend. Actually a few of them just to be on the safe side. :)
