Poplar Loving

Wow the poplar trees have started their seeding. We have 3 massive ones standing over the creek at the back of our house.  I have been waiting for this all year, the little balls of white fluff sailing in the air like fairies. Judging by the amount of it and the fact they say it lasts about 6 weeks,  I do believe we might just find ourselves having a white Christmas this year. The house and lawns will be covered in a blanket of white.

Some people would hate this. I'm thinking of my brother in law when I say that with his yearly curse of hay-fever.  But as I sit here on the deck with it all swirling around me in the wind, I love it. You see, Marcus proposed to me under a poplar tree, surrounded in the blanket of white. I had never seen it before so it all added to the magic of the moment.

The kids found these stones in the garage too and were using them to make fairy huts. They are the stones we used at our wedding for place names. As I collected them all up and put them in the base of one of our potted plants I read the names. People that were so special to us at that point in our lives. I got a bit teary when I realised just how many of them are no longer with us. After 12 years there is more than just one or two that have passed on.

So it's all rather fitting, the white fluff, the rediscovered stones because on Sunday Marcus and I celebrate our wedding anniversary.  12 years. 13 years since that proposal. We are attempting another night out to mark the occasion. Wish us luck!

That's us after the proposal. "Selfies" were even more shameful 13 years ago when taken on a non digital camera and having to wait a week to develop the film to see the image. That's mum and Dad kids, old school days!

  1. LOVE! You and Marcus look so young! I never knew what trees that white stuff came from, but I've always thought it was pretty magical and snow-like too. xx
