Karakia Mo te Kai

Going to a christian kindergarten with a bilingual teacher our children have learnt to say "grace" in Maori before meals. Lucy learnt this karakia early on and despite some mis-pronunciation we have loved having her say it to us at dinner.
It goes like this:

Karakia mo te kai

E te Atua,

Whakapaingia enei Kai

Hei oranga mo matou

Amine.

And then because it is a pentecostal kindy they finish up the Maori prayer with an English version of Thank you Lord for giving us food sung with actions to the superman theme song. It really is a wonder to watch and we are the first to admit how crazy we must look at dinner time in our house.

Ollie has been going to Lucy's kindy for a few weeks now and while his language is improving every day he still speaks in quite stunted sentences.  So when I asked Lucy to say grace tonight and he chirped in with "me do it!" Lucy, Marcus and I were all keen to see what he'd come up with.
He closed his eyes, clasped his hands together and it went something like this:

Karakia morning time

E te, one, two! eighteen! fourteen! twenty!

Free time! 10 minutes!

All Blacks, rugby world cup.

had me giggling so much I almost wet my pants.
