Days of Our Lives

All in a days work for this Nana

Last week mum came to stay. It was fortuitous as I had managed to get 4 days relieving in a row so the extra help at home was much appreciated.  She got stuck in and was used more like a Nanny than a Nana. But then is that what Nana's are... unpaid babysitters? Paid in kisses and cuddles aye Mum.

She stayed out in our sleep out which is a welcome retreat from the noise in our house but was gracious enough to say "when the kids wake in the morning, send them out to me." I don't think she realised this would be at 5.30am. They were so excited as I bundled them up in their slippers and dressing gowns with a bag full of story books and pushed them out the back door. Meanwhile I retreated back to bed for an extra couple of hours.

She had scooter races with Oliver up and down our driveway which he loved and would present her with pretend medals if she won in an elaborate ceremony involving her bowing her head while he placed an imaginary ribbon around her neck.

Then it was off to high Tea in Napier where a friend had shouted me a voucher for two. Intending Marcus and I to go on a date but this was a treat not to be wasted on a male. (He would never let me dress up in the hats.)

Mum, I appreciate you more every day, knowing the sacrifices you went through to raise us and how you continue to come back for round 2. Thanks for been so hands on. Our kids are blessed to have 2 amazing grandmothers. Thank you for having the energy for play when all I see are chores and interruptions. Have a great trip to Fiji and see if you can show off some of your scooter skills to the locals. You never know it might become an olympic sport.
