The weird thing was that it was so quiet. No sirens, no banging explosions just the normal sounds at night. I called for Marcus to come look and when he saw he let out a groan, "oh no, not Hawk Packaging again." It is a Fruit packing company (the only one in New Zealand no less). They make all those apple boxes and the purple trays that stack the apples so nicely. The place had stock piled high all ready for picking season which has just begun. They had a fire in October which was bad enough but that had nothing on this blaze. Marcus' groan was because his company looks after all their IT needs.
Seconds after I had shown Marcus the view from our front door his cellphone called and it was the CEO of Hawk Packaging confirming Marcus' fears and asking if Marcus could get down there to try and save the server from the admin block.
Marcus jumped in his car and headed to the scene. He returned at 1am, the server and also the server from DSK Engineering (the building next door) saved but in the process his car was crashed into by a police car. (The policeman's fault. phew!)
Morning arrived a few hours later and we were able to tell the kids the exciting events of the night as they marveled at our front lawn covered in ash. I took the kids for a walk down the road to see the ruins.
Olli wore his fireman hat and waved at the firemen like they were colleagues.
| Look at Olli watching the Firemen with his hands on his hips. Classic! |
I love the pics- especially Olli with the rolls of firehose!
