Cowboy Party

We've just got back from Oliver's Cowboy and Indian Party, although nobody came as an Indian and apart from one Pirate it was pretty much cowboys all round. 

Couldn't think of a better place to be a cowboy than Ted's hut. It was a perfect evening, and the good thing about a boy's party is that I didn't need to hang one single bunting flag. There were no matching napkins, or paper lanterns. Just nature, Hawkes Bay's outside wilderness in all it's drought glory.

Oliver and his sweet cousin Amelie who presented him with a potato gun. He is smitten!

Lucy and Elyisha who came to help with the horses and give the kids rides.

Alfie is Oliver's friend from kindy who came as a pirate, bless!

Cowboy Ted himself even came out to give the kids rides on his motorbike. Oliver couldn't manage much more than a high five,  Ted is pretty much his ultimate hero.

Due to the fire ban there was no camp fire and marshmallow roasting but instead some sausages on the BBQ and some cowboy and Indian themed games.  Surprising to me, they were pretty good at the bow and arrow.

The robber bandit was caught by the cowboys and handcuffed to the chair until the goodie loot bags were recovered from the hiding place he had put them.

And just when you think he's all grown up, he reminds us that he is only 4 after all and his legs just stop working when he is tired. Lucky for him, his Dad has strong shoulders.

Driving home we were treated to the most beautiful sunset and rising of a full moon over Te Mata Peak. Tomorrow is Good Friday and the sight of the orange moon and red sky helped re centre my thoughts on what is the most important event of our faith.

As fun as they were, it is very nice to have all the birthdays behind us now so that we can start concentrating our time and energy into things that really matter. With March over we can stop the need to celebrate life and just get on with living it. I'm looking forward to that. Happy Easter. x
