Lucy's birthday party was held yesterday. It was a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory theme. We had watched the movie in the holidays when her cousins stayed and then she stumbled across the book in her school library and brought it home all excited. We read it together at bedtime and it was her 2nd chapter book to get through so all in all it seemed like a good theme to turn 6 to.
I was inspired by my friend Mel Palmer's party she put on for her son and then once you start on 'pinterest' the ideas just keep a coming.
The invites were so much fun and set the scene..
Then my VERY talented and lovely friend Jenny made Nate these Oompa Loompa pants.
I couldn't get him to keep the mask on, but aren't they gorgeous! Thanks Jenny. x
All the games we played linked to the story. Augustus Gloop was the inspiration behind the Marshmallow game where the winner was the one who could fit the most marshmallows in their mouth and still get out the words 'Augustus Gloop'
Lucy won this game, no surprises there. Actually think those missing teeth were an advantage in squeezing that extra one in.
Veruca Salt was a bad egg inspiring an egg and spoon race. And Violet Beauregarde was our pinata which needed popping.
I know that looks terrible but it really was a labour of love, Oliver and I spent all week practising our paper mache skills on that thing only to see it bashed to pieces in a a matter of minutes.
We had fizzy lifting drinks which they drank and then the first to burp won the prize and a pin a moustache on Mr Wonka. Also played musical cushions to the movie soundtrack.
The prizes were hidden in this punch wall. I just stapled plastic bowls to a notice board, put the prizes inside then covered in tissue paper. If they won a game they got to pick a bowl to punch through. Unfortunately it was Oliver who won the everlasting jaw breaking gobstopper. Seriously, what was I thinking buying one of those?
Instead of cake, Lucy wanted a chocolate fountain which once we got the consistency right was a huge hit with the kids. Pretty messy, but it should all come out in the wash, fingers crossed.
Or you just get naked like Olli did!
This little cutie, couldn't keep herself away from the fountain. The rest would be off playing and she would be parked up here. So cute!
Lucy got super spoilt by all the lovely presents
And there was a lot of food to get through.
Phew, sorry for the photo overload and we are still tidying up. Marcus doesn't want to see another Wonka face for a long time, they seem to follow him in his sleep and I can't stop humming, "oompa oompa oompa dee do.."
heheehe love it! You really did go all out with the theme Anna, well done! I am now getting hounded to host a party exactly like Lucy's one by two very adoring little fans. Can I stick to my "no big parties for a few years" guns?! Hmmm
ReplyDeleteI have all the stuff now, cupcake toppers the works so you are welcome to it! One more party left this month then we are done for another year then I think we will be following your lead of no big parties for a few years. :)
